Don’t slight the Rip Torn phone calls – they are pure, note- perfect Hollywood Comedy gold nirvana – basically crack for non-users. The Larry Scorch reference a few weeks back, along with the story line of out-of-control 70s Hollywood, was just thrills, boyee.
I once read in some TV encyclopedia about a Showtime show that was a trailblazer (probably lasted about three episodes) about this kind of satirical bombast about TV Hollywood, but that was before I could afford TV, let alone Showtime.
Great stuff – Gilmartin is still pumping that purple pedal, but it’s become a good running gag.
